Scotch is short for Scottish Whiskey that originated in Scotland sometime in the 11th century. It is one of the oldest known whiskeys. The name derives from the Gaelic word, uisce, which means, “Water of Life”.
Scotch is Good for You
For centuries scotch has been used to combat several health-related issues including fighting off and the prevention of some cancer! The Ellagic Acid found in scotch is known for its antioxidant properties which remove harmful toxins from the body and protect the body against other harmful molecules. This spirit also protects against Alzheimer’s, premature aging, and heart disease. Thus, the name, “Water of Life”. Additionally, scotch (like most whiskeys) is used to aid in digestion and will help keep you from overeating. The human body breaks down the simple sugars in the whiskey and converts them into energy. Hands down, this is the best spirit for you to drink if you are dieting or not!
Please remember to always drink in moderation. Binge drinking can cause more harm than good. It’s a good idea to stick with no more than a couple of fingers. Use your index and middle fingers to measure your pour. This is also equal to about an ounce to an ounce and a half depending on the actual size of your fingers.
In order for Scotch to earn its distinction, it must be aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years. The age printed on the outside of a bottle means that it was the minimum age of the scotch.
Scotch is the “Water of Life”. Enjoy it neat or on the rocks and is a gentleman’s cocktail. Ordering a glass of scotch is a true display of sophistication. It’s even more classy if you know what brand and age you are ordering.
Always drink responsibly!
