Many years ago I frequented Byrne’s Irish Pub (AKA Byrne’s) in Columbus, Ohio. This bar is the epitome of a local pub. It is the home of the Little Green Men and so much more!
Byrne’s is the kind of place you immediately feel warm and cozy no matter what time of year. The winter months were especially great as it is the place to be when there is nothing else to do. It is the place to be in the summertime after working all day in the yard. When you walk in the door your ice-cold beer is sitting on the bar waiting for you.
There is no question on where your friends will be on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night. No one will ever ask if we are going to Byrne’s. It was more like, see you at the pub tonight!
Byrne’s is the place where you knew at least a few people every time you walk through the door. There is no such thing as sitting alone because you always had someone to talk to.
One of the things that make Byrne’s so unique is the people who work there. The owners work the bar daily and the bartenders have been there for years. They are some of the most amazingly kind people I have ever known. And they are the kind of people that I’m glad to call my friends.
I’ve since moved to Hampton Roads Virginia, and I can say that I miss that little pub. My daughter now frequents the pub and the bartenders still ask her about how I’m doing. I have yet to find “my Byrne’s Pub” where I live now, but I’m still looking.
On special occasions or any occasion for that matter (and when Joel was bartending), we would order our favorite shot, “Little Green Men”. This shot is minty and delicious and will always remind me of the wonderful times I had at Byrne’s Pub.
