Buttercloth – My New Favorite Shirt

I’ve been on countless dates over the years and one of the most critical and stressful parts of the date is the hour leading up to the date night when I’m trying to figure out what to wear. 

I want to show my date that I have style and class, so I know that I can’t just wear a tee shirt and jeans and hope for the best.  I also have to be conscientious of what shoes I wear too. 

A friend once told me that she can tell a lot from a guy by his shoes and that is one of the first things she looks at when going on a date. If a guy’s shoes are old and ratchet, he’s either too poor to buy new ones and isn’t in a position to be dating, or he just doesn’t care enough about himself.

However, the very first thing that the ladies look at when you walk up to their door is your shirt.  You need to be sure that you look impeccable and wrinkle-free.  The first impression is everything and you don’t want to blow it.

What Should You Wear?

It has always been my practice to ask my date what she is going to wear when making plans for the evening.  If we plan on going to a nice restaurant and hitting a bar afterward, then I would plan on wearing a button-up untucked shirt, straight-leg jeans, and maybe my red Adidas sneakers or my brown Johnston & Murphy boots.

If I am meeting for cocktails after work, I would stay in my suit and just lose the tie. You can never go wrong wearing a two-piece suit.

Nowadays I don’t have to think as hard when dressing up (or down) to go out. I just ask my fiancée what she wants me to wear.  She gives me some ideas and I go from there. 

Although I really appreciate her input, I still think about my style and how I want to be perceived.  I’m not talking about the perception of other ladies, but more so a general overall perception.  I want people to think, man that dude has style. 

The Shirt is the Key

The summer months on the East Coast of Virginia can be brutally hot and humid, so finding something comfortable to wear is always a challenge.  And of course, wearing the right shirt is the key piece to your date night attire. 

Recently I came across Buttercloth who boasts to be the World’s most comfortable shirt.  And when it comes to date night, being comfortable is a must.

Although I typically wear long sleeve shirts for a date night, I felt that going with a nice-looking short sleeve could do the trick.

After reviewing the Buttercloth line, I found a shirt pattern that I liked and ordered.

When my shirt arrived the first thing that I noticed was the packaging.  The way the shirt was laid in the box with the silver foil, I immediately felt like I just purchased a luxury shirt.  Even the product insert was coated with something that made it feel soft to the touch.

The shirt arrived wrinkle-free and when I put it on…well, it was like butter.  I’ve never felt a material this soft or comfortable.  I was immediately impressed.

The Date Night

The moment of truth arrived, and my date and I went to see the Dave Matthews Band at an outdoor venue in Virginia Beach.  It was 90 degrees, and the heat index was over 100!  It was hot!

My date and I both agreed that with the heat we should dress comfortably.  I wore khaki flat-front shorts, navy blue Chucks, and my new short-sleeve Buttercloth shirt. 

When I picked up my date and she gave me a hug, she was like, “Wow!  Your shirt is so soft, I’m going to have a hard time keeping my hands off of you.”

First off,  thank you Buttercloth for making this shirt so soft that my date couldn’t stop touching me.  Second, the shirt kept me cool for the entire concert.  It was kind of like wearing nothing at all.  It’s breathable and the infused mint fibers really kept me cool.

Amazingly, the shirt never wrinkled.  We did a lot of sitting and I thought for sure the shirt would wrinkle near my waist like my other shirts.  But this didn’t phase my Buttercloth shirt and it looked great all night.

Wrapping Up

I was taught from a young age that you never leave the house looking less than perfect.  Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of times I just throw on a hat and my beat-up Chucks to head to the store. I just make sure that I wear clean underwear and an outfit that is presentable. You never know when you might run into your boss or your next date.
