Sleep: it’s incredibly important for health but incredibly difficult to come by. If you want to create the perfect environment to sleep, check out these tips.
Between our busy schedules, our health, and our cluttered minds, there is a lot that keeps us from falling asleep easily at night. But one factor that many people don’t consider is their bedrooms.
Fortunately, our rooms are one of the things we have the most control over.
Our tips for designing the perfect bedroom for sleep will help you turn your room into a restful haven.
Ditch the Electronics
Despite the name, we tend to use our bedrooms for far more than going to bed.
Often, they double as our workspace, gaming stations, and home theatre. But staring into a bright screen is exactly what you don’t want to do when it comes to relaxing your body for sleep.
As hard as it is, try to keep electronics in other parts of the house wherever possible. And plug your phone in as far from your bed as you can.
Play With Color
Any marketing major will tell you that color impacts our minds, emotions, and behaviors.
Some colors just key us up more than others, especially warm colors like red, orange, and yellow.
So next time you go to repaint your bedroom, opt for a color that tends to calm you down. Natural colors like blue and green are often ideal options.
Cool It Down
Anyone who has struggled through a summer without AC will tell you that hot nights are brutal for sleep.
Of course, in most cases, you can’t set your thermostat to make just your room that perfect 65 degrees for sleep.
But you can still implement some design strategies to make your bedroom perfect for sleep, temperature-wise, including ceiling and stand fans.
Add a Sweet Scent
It seems like people use essential oils for just about everything nowadays, but here’s something to add to the list: sleep.
Certain smells will help you relax into a more restful sleep, such as:
- Lavender
- Bergamot
- Chamomile
- Sandalwood
- Cedarwood
- Ylang-ylang
All you need to do is add a diffuser to your bedside and buy some essential oils. Suddenly, the very air you breathe will help you drift to sleep.
